Who are your students?

Sessions Two and Three introduce Industry Associates to the FE sector and students that they may encounter and support in Further Education. Across the two sessions, Industry Associates explore the diversity of FE landscape and FE students, recognising that each student is on an individual journey shaped by their starting points, ambitions, and wider circumstances. Through a campus tour and reflection activities, they consider the provider setting as a learning environment, exploring how spaces, facilities, and the wider student experience shape learning. The sessions prompt Industry Associates to consider how their understanding of students and contexts can inform their contributions to teaching and learning activities.

Industry Associates will:

  • Develop introductory knowledge of the diverse nature of FE students.
  • Understand that there is no single ‘typical’ FE student.
  • Explore student journeys through case studies.
  • Reflect on how students’ backgrounds, ambitions and support needs may shape learning.
  • Consider how their own industry experience can support students’ future progression.
